About the Company Name
The company name (Aunt Sally Lincoln) comes from the nickname given to Sarah Bush Lincoln (1788 – 1869), Abraham Lincoln’s stepmother, by many generations of her nieces, nephews, and local townsfolk. Sarah Bush Lincoln understood the importance of safe and healthful living conditions and provided such an environment to young Abe in a one-room log cabin following the death of his birthmother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln (1784-1818), from milk sickness in southern Indiana. The actions, principles, and unwavering support of Sarah Bush Lincoln clearly demonstrated that she was an early nineteenth century EHS practitioner. Her final log cabin home, pictured on this page, in Coles County, Illinois is managed as a State Historic Site, and the regional hospital bearers her name.
